MKI Frogeye Fully Restored

De Austin Healey Sprite werd eind jaren 50 geïntroduceerd met als doel om leuke en betaalbare roadster te maken voor een groot publiek. Het resultaat was een compacte, tweezits sportwagen die in 1958 op markt kwam. Er zijn vier uitvoeringen geweest (MK I tot en met MK IV), waarvan de eerste uitvoering de meest bijzondere was, door het opvallende en afwijkende uiterlijk ten opzichte van de latere uitvoeringen. Deze Austin Healey Sprite MKI kreeg al snel de bijnaam Frogye, en het is niet moeilijk te raden waarom dit model zo werd genoemd. Inmiddels is het van de Sprite de meest gewilde (en ook meest exclusieve) uitvoering geworden.

Deze Austin Healey Sprite MKI is in 1960 geproduceerd en oorspronkelijk geleverd in de Verenigde Staten. In 1997 is de auto naar Nederland gekomen (transportbon aanwezig) en heeft vervolgens een grondige en zeer vakkundige body-off restauratie ondergaan. Het resultaat is een werkelijk in nieuwstaat verkerende Austin Healey Frogey in smetteloze conditie en met een prachtige kleurencombinatie Old English White met rood lederen interieur. Zelden hebben we een klassieke auto gezien die zo perfect is gerestaureerd. Uiteraard zijn tijdens de restauratie ook het motorblok en de versnellingsbank volledig gereviseerd.

De carrosserie is uitzonderlijke nieuwstaat. De stijlvolle kleur Old English White (zo is de auto ook origineel geleverd) heeft een prachtige diepe glans en het spuitwerk is van bijzonder hoge kwaliteit. De carrosseriedelen sluiten goed op elkaar aan en ook de portieren openen en sluiten goed. Ook de diverse chroom- en sierdelen zijn in absolute nieuwstaat en glanzen schitterend. De diverse rubberdelen en afdichtingen zijn in perfecte conditie. Het is waarschijnlijk overbodig om te vermelden dat ook de cabrioletkap in volledige nieuwstaat is. Uiteraard zijn de zijramen ook volledig nieuw en perfect.

Het interieur is adembenemend mooi. Het prachtige rood vormt een stijlvolle combinatie met de buitenkleur. Tijdens de restauratie is het interieur volledig vernieuwd en de rood lederen stoelen zijn in perfecte conditie en zitten stevig en comfortabel. De deurpanelen, het dashboard en ook de vloerbekleding is volledig nieuw. De diverse chroom en sierdelen zijn uiteraard ook in nieuwstaat en in glanzende conditie. De prachtige Smiths tellers zijn nieuw en werken uiteraard naar behoren. Het houten stuurwiel is niet alleen volledig nieuw, maar vormt ook een prachtige combinatie bij het interieur.

Onder de motorkap ziet alles er indrukwekkend schoon en verzorgd uit. De motorruimte is in perfecte nieuwstaat en het vakkundig gereviseerde 948 cc motorblok klinkt erg mooi en soepel en deze Austin Healey Frogey rijdt heerlijk. De remmen werken stevig en solide en ook het schakelen gaat bijzonder soepel. Deze stijlvolle en compacte klassieke roadster is niet alleen schitterend om te zien, maar ook heerlijk om mee te rijden. En zeker in deze uitzonderlijke en perfecte nieuwstaat maakt deze Frogey extra aantrekkelijk.

The Austin Healey Sprite was introduced in the late 1950s with the aim of creating a fun and affordable roadster for a wide audience. The result was a compact, two-seater sports car that came onto the market in 1958. There were four versions (MK I to MK IV), of which the first version was the most special, due to its striking and different appearance compared to the later versions. This Austin Healey Sprite MKI was soon nicknamed Frogye, and it is not difficult to guess why this model was called that. In the meantime, it has become the most sought-after (and also most exclusive) version of the Sprite.

This Austin Healey Sprite MKI was produced in 1960 and originally delivered in the United States. In 1997, the car came to the Netherlands (transport receipt present) and subsequently underwent a thorough and very professional body-off restoration. The result is a truly new Austin Healey Frogey in immaculate condition and with a beautiful color combination of Old English White with red leather interior. We have rarely seen a classic car that has been restored so perfectly. Of course, the engine block and the gearbox were also completely overhauled during the restoration.

The bodywork is in an exceptionally new condition. The stylish colour Old English White (this is how the car was originally delivered) has a beautiful deep shine and the paintwork is of exceptionally high quality. The body parts fit together well and the doors also open and close well. The various chrome and trim parts are also in absolute new condition and shine beautifully. The various rubber parts and seals are in perfect condition. It probably goes without saying that the convertible top is also in completely new condition. Of course, the side windows are also completely new and perfect.

The interior is breathtakingly beautiful. The beautiful red forms a stylish combination with the exterior colour. During the restoration, the interior was completely renewed and the red leather seats are in perfect condition and are sturdy and comfortable. The door panels, the dashboard and also the floor covering are completely new. The various chrome and trim parts are of course also in new condition and in a shiny condition. The beautiful Smiths counters are new and of course work properly. The wooden steering wheel is not only completely new, but also forms a beautiful combination with the interior.

Under the hood everything looks impressively clean and well-maintained. The engine compartment is in perfect new condition and the expertly overhauled 948 cc engine block sounds very nice and smooth and this Austin Healey Frogey drives wonderfully. The brakes work firmly and solidly and the shifting is also very smooth. This stylish and compact classic roadster is not only beautiful to look at, but also wonderful to drive. And certainly in this exceptional and perfect new condition this Frogey makes extra attractive.
