Daimler Sovereign Coupe 4.2 L6 – Dark Blue

There are many beautiful and special XJs out there, but the Daimler Sovereign Coupé truly reigns supreme. Built on the same wheelbase as the Series II Saloon of the era, but with just two doors and elegant pillarless side windows, it’s a rare and striking sight – especially in this condition.
Just take a look at that stunning roofline, newly finished in fresh vinyl. The paintwork is nothing short of exquisite, resprayed in the exact original colour: Dark Blue. Inside, the Biscuit leather interior complements the bodywork perfectly. This Coupé breathes Côte d’Azur elegance – picture the side windows fully down, gliding along the coast near Cannes or Saint-Tropez. You can see it, can’t you?
But let’s be honest – you don’t reach Cannes in just any old classic. Only the finest make the journey. That’s why this Daimler has undergone extensive maintenance. Every technical detail in need of attention has been carefully addressed by our specialists. Naturally, it has a fresh Dutch APK inspection. All of this means one thing: step in and drive. That’s what these cars are made for – pure enjoyment.
Only 1,600 Daimler Sovereign Coupés with the 4.2 engine ever left the factory. And this example? It’s left-hand drive – even rarer, with only around 170 LHD units believed to have been built. Combined with the number that have sadly not survived, this makes the Daimler Coupé not only rare, but also increasingly valuable. Prices have been rising steadily for years – making this a passion that, for now, remains attainable.
The paintwork is in excellent condition and finished to a high standard – something rarely seen these days. The original Biscuit leather upholstery is in superb shape, with the seat cushions having been re-padded in the past for comfort. The door seals remain soft and intact. During the comprehensive maintenance the past years, the headlining was naturally renewed as well.
And then there are the details…
The chrome trim is stunning – and incredibly rare. The original wheels are in beautiful shape, and the graceful Daimler badges and emblems complete the picture.
Out on the road, this Coupé is a true joy. Its ride is refined, not comparable to most of the Jaguars from that era. You’ll feel it immediately. This Daimler is a true grand tourer – beautifully soft yet never floaty. Plenty of torque allows for relaxed, low-rev cruising.
As mentioned, a left-hand drive Daimler Coupé is a rare find. And an original car like this one deserves to be well documented. It comes with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate, confirming that the car’s cosmetic and mechanical specifications match the factory record. There’s also a substantial collection of historical documents and service records supporting its provenance.
The underside and chassis are in remarkably good condition. No significant corrosion to be found – the sills and wheel arches are solid. The transmission was overhauled previously, and of course, a detailed photo set is available.
